If you’re a new User of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, you should be taking advantage of the options to personalize forms, menus, or grids. For example, you can hide fields and customize form navigation to best fit your work obligations or work style. You can also modify data grids to contain the information you need.

Configuring Buttons
In the left-hand navigation pane, click the Navigate button at the bottom and then Navigation pane options to customize what you want to see and how you see it by selecting the task-related checkboxes that make the most sense for your role. You can then change the order of the checkboxes you’ve selected to have them show up in a more desired, task-oriented list in your left-hand navigation pane.

Show/Hide Navigation Pane
Click the small arrow in the upper-right corner of the navigation pane to collapse or pin open the navigation pane. You can also choose what you see in this top part of the navigation pane – or if you view it at all – by clicking File > View > Show Favorites in Navigation Pane or Auto-Hide Navigation.

Modules
You can add or remove modules in your navigation pane as appropriate for your organization by selecting File > View > Modules. For example, if you do not use Master Planning, you can uncheck the box so it doesn’t show up in your navigation pane.

Opening Forms in Edit Mode
If you’re working in a lot of forms and constantly editing things, you can ask Microsoft Dynamics AX to open in Edit mode instead of View mode. Go to File > View > Default Form/View Edit Mode. That way, you don’t have to click Edit every time you go into a form.

Changing Languages
You can change the user interface and help language. It’s important to note that this language selection applies to the Microsoft Dynamics AX client, the Enterprise Portal for Microsoft Dynamics AX, and the Excel planning client. Go to File > Tools > Options. You will then see the Language and Alternate help language fields where you can select the language(s) that you would like to use.

Additional Interface Options
While we’re in Files > Tools > Options, you have a few additional interface options. A couple things to point out: Autocomplete is a nice tool to keep on, as is Default TAB behavior. You can also specify the Infolog detail level and note if you want to see errors only, errors and warnings, or the default, show all.

Using Favorites
Favorites are a great way to create shortcuts to forms. As you add more, you can organize them into groups or folders. If a form includes more than one query, you can include those as well so that it always opens with one of the queries applied.

To add/show a favorite, go to File > View > Show Favorites in the navigation pane. As an example, go to Accounts payable > Vendors > All vendors. Right-click on your form, and you’ll see a box to add the form to your favorites.

If you right-click on My favorites > Create group, you can add a group under the parent folder and organize your favorites so they’re listed in a specific way.

By right-clicking on an option in the navigation menu, you can add it to your favorites as well as decide to which group it should belong.
