One of the big paradigm shifts from Microsoft Dynamics AX to Dynamics 365 for Operations is the concept of workspaces. Most end Users are used to going into a certain module to complete their tasks. Whether it’s going into accounts payable to enter a vendor invoice or going into accounts receivable to apply a Customer payment to an invoice, this is what we are accustomed to and have been for some time. However, when entering those modules, it can be somewhat overwhelming to Customer invoicingtry to find the form you need to complete your tasks. Common data, inquiries, periodic functionality, reports, and setup forms are all mixed in there as well. In Dynamics 365, when you first log on you will see all the workspaces (depending on your security role). Instead of going into a module and remembering where to go to complete tasks, these workspaces provide a form to complete all your tasks in one area. For example, the Customer invoicing workspace allows you to manage all your Customer invoices in one form. Let’s jump into Dynamics 365 to take a look at the different functionality available.

On the left-hand side of the page, open the Workspaces node and then click Customer invoicing to enter that form.

This is the typical home page of the Customer invoicing. As you can see, I have selected the “Shipped but not invoiced sales orders”. From here, I can easily select a sales order and click the Invoice button to invoice that particular sales order.

If I click on the “Open Customer invoices” tab, then I will see all the Customer invoices that are open in this legal entity.

3-4

I can drill into a specific Customer invoice by clicking on the invoice. Clicking on the invoice again shows me the detail of what this contains. In this example, I can see the sales order associated with this invoice. I could continue drilling down to look into each specific line of the sales order as well.

As you can see, there are additional forms available in this workspace that have the potential to be very useful to your business and its Users. Workspaces like Customer invoicing offer convenience above all else. It is a one-stop shop to handle any and all AR invoices. Whether it’s a free text invoice or a sales order invoice, you will have access to address them all from one form.
